Getting away from everyday stress is a massively important thing and case studies point out how fulfilling a creative distraction can be for a peace of mind.

About the Classes

Beginning Wheel I

This course includes studio tour, orientation and lays the foundation for development of basic skills in throwing, trimming and glaze application. Watch the instructor’s demonstrations and get hands-on practice. Glazing, kiln firings up to 3000 cubic inches, first clay (additional clay available for purchase) and use of tool kits. First class mandatory. Recommended – Bring apron or old towel, note pad, pencil, sharpie marker. Always arrive on time.

Beginning Wheel II

This course reinforces the basic skills in throwing, trimming and glaze application, and adds pulling handles for mugs and pitchers. Includes demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Glazing, kiln firings up to 3000 cubic inches, use of took kits also included. Clay available for purchase. Designated Open Studio time. First class mandatory. Recommended – Bring apron or old towel, note pad, pencil, sharpie marker. Always arrive on time.

Beginning Handbuilding

Learn how to create projects using slab, coil, and pinch techniques. Beginners will have an initial experience with clay and its subtleties. Students will learn proportion, durability, and surface refinement while developing a personal aesthetic, leaving with thoughtfully crafted pieces

Membership

Membership is offered to those that have completed both beginning classes at the Studio and those outside the Studio that come with clay experience. If you are new to the studio, we offer an orientation and tour to get you started. The Studio offers up to 50 hours a week of studio time. 

Please note that it is mandatory for new students enrolled in Beginning Classes to attend their first day.  Class tuition is non-refundable. If you miss your first class, a make-up class may not be available. If you will not be able to make your first class, please give no less than 7 days notice and a studio credit toward another class will be issued. Please Note: Ceramics classes can be physically demanding and students should be able to move about comfortably and lift 25 pounds of clay. If you have any physical limitations or questions, please speak with staff before signing up for a class.

Tuition covers classes, open studio time, glazing and the completion of projects you make at the studio.  Guests are not permitted without permission granted in advance . Please do not bring your child to class or Open Studio with you. Your class enrollment is not transferable to another person. Clayworks is a privately owned business and reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
